Neustadt bei Coburg

Neustadt bei Coburg is the largest town in the district of Coburg and lies in the centre of a wide valley basin in an extremely scenic location at the south-western foothills of the Thuringian Forest. The 516 metre high Muppberg, the local mountain of Neustadt, is close to the town and is a unique recreational and hiking area. Many cycle paths, in particular the "Iron Curtain Trail" (European cycle path no. 13), lead through and around Neustadt bei Coburg. A modern indoor swimming pool and the "Villeneuve-sur-Lot" leisure park contribute to the high recreational value of the large district town of Neustadt. Also worth seeing are the Museum of the German Toy Industry, the Historical Christmas Museum and the Inner German Border Educational Centre about the division of Germany.

Hikers get their money's worth on the Muppberg and the surrounding mountains. The Prinzregententurm tower on the Muppberg offers a fantastic view of the Thuringian countryside and the land of Franconia. The International Puppet Festival takes place every year. This has not only earned the town the nickname "Bavarian Doll Town", but also ties in with the old tradition of doll and toy making in Neustadt. In addition, the popular Swing in the Park festival takes place in June in the "Villeneuve-sur-Lot" leisure park and the Rock & Classic Open-Air takes place at the beginning of July. The Neustadt Children's Festival, which was added to the Bavarian State Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023, attracts visitors every year in July with an exciting programme of entertainment and shows. Other highlights include the cinema summer (July/August), the jazz concert (November), regular city and park tours and the St. Nicholas market (December). The kultur.werk.stadt also hosts concerts, readings, cabaret, lectures and exhibitions throughout the year. The tradition of markets can still be found today in various themed markets as well as in the weekly and monthly markets.
