Gemeente Echt-Susteren-Nieuwstadt

At the narrowest part of the Netherlands, you will find `Echt-Susteren´. Echt-Susteren is a place to escape the daily hustle and bustle and find the good life in all its facets: good infrastructure, old towns, picturesque villages, beautiful nature, good food, art and culture. Echt-Susteren is member of `Cittaslow´ since 2015 – a worldwide association of liveable and lovable cities, which includes remarkable Slow-Food as well as nature and relaxation.

The village centre `Nieuwstadt´ is located within the local community of Echt-Susteren. This place received city rights already within the 13th century (1263) and therefore can be considered as such. Unfortunately there is not much left of the old canals and the neighbourhood of these times but you can still find well-preserved relicts at some places. As well, some of the old buildings are still well preserved such as `St. Jans Church´ or the `Huize Witham´, which was built out of the debris of a former castle.
Echt-Susteren is a nice starting point for all those who would really get to know the Limburg and Europe. To visit the `Cathedral of Aachen´ in Germany, a trip by bicycle to `Maaseik´ in Belgium just for a beer on the historical market place or a visit of the large urban square `Vrijthof´ in the centre of Maastricht: all this easy to do and no problem.

Unlimited possibilities to enjoy and for recreation you can find as well. The leisure park `In de Bandert´ (with indoor pool, Grand Café, gym, tennis park and and sports ground) and the beautiful forest areas and nature reserves such as `De Doort´, `Het Kranenbroek´, `Het Ijzerenbosch´ and `Naturschutzgebiet ´t Holz´ are inviting you to stay.
