Two worlds in Germany

An article about the declared goal of the government to create “equality in living conditions” between the former eastern and western German states was published on March 9 in the Welt newspaper.

But what is it really like? The author, Klaus Christian Mahlzahn, describes a tale of two cities Neustadt an der Aisch and Neustadt in Saxony, which are approximately 400 km apart. At first glance, there appear to be many similarities between the Franconian city and its Saxon counterpart, each having a market square in the town centre with an old municipal building and fountain. The Aisch river flows through one Neustadt, the Polenz flows through the other.

Newest member of the town twinning

Newest member of the town twinning is the city “Cristian-Neustadt in Burzenland”. The now southernmost town of the joint venture is located in Transylvania in Romania.
