Neustadt an der Weinstraße

The City of Neustadt an der Weinstraße and its nine wine villages is located in the south west of Germany in the wine region called the Palatinate, directly at the epicentre of the German Wine Route and is the gate to the Nature Park Palatinate Forest (UNESCO).

Our tip: A trip with the historical steam engine “Kuckucksbähnel” into the romantic Elmstein Valley. The historic old town centre is beautifully adorned with the largest number of half-timbered houses in the Palatinate, surrounding the historical market square with the baroque municipal building, the kings fountain (Königsbrunnen) and the Gothic collegiate church which is the city’s landmark. The largest cast steel bell in the world hangs in its north tower. At the Elwedritsche fountain you can become acquainted with the famous mythical creature of the Palatinate, the “Elwedritsche”. Above the wine village Hambach there is the Hambach Castle, the venue of the Hambach Festival and the “cradle of German democracy”.

Wine is omnipresent in the landscape and lives of the people: From spring to fall there is sure to be a wine festival taking place somewhere: The highlight of these festivals is the German Wine Harvest Festival with the w.i.n.e.FESTival and the crowning of the German wine queen.
